Not since the last century and the invention of the light bulb has the world witnessed such a radical change in the way people live their lives. Just as the incandescent light bulb extended the light of day into the night and changed the way people lived, so the discovery of a new photoreceptor in the eye has extended the role of light into the realm of human health. Light is now known to drive the body’s hormonal system, affecting everything from body core temperature to sleep. However, our hormonal systems are the result of eons spent living on this rotating planet with one sun. This presentation will present information on both the science and the history of this new discovery with emphasis upon architectural / lighting applications.
