A three million dollar renovation of Market
Square Park was recently dedicated August 28th on its 100th
anniversary. The park occupies a historic block in Downtown Houston,
where the city’s original City Hall was located. The new park features
a dining plaza, food kiosk, lawn, water features, dog runs, children’s
play element and gardens. A special garden commemorating the victims of
the September 11th attacks on America will soon be dedicated
September 11, 2010.
The park lighting was designed by Richard Jeter,
one of Houston’s premier lighting consultants. His presentation will
address the lighting design of this significant project from the
illuminating engineering approach as well as the fine & performing arts
approach (see more on this at our October
meeting). There will be an explanation and viewing of the design
documents and prototypes including landscape architectural, hardscape
architectural, structural engineering, electrical engineering, fountain
design, project manual, bid and issue-for-construction documents.
For those that are interested in visiting this
monumental installation, the IES Houston Section will follow up with a
private viewing of the lighting on Friday 9/17/10. So please also sign
