The transition to LED lighting that is revolutionizing the marketplace presents unique concerns for outdoor street and area lighting applications.  This presentation focuses on helping industry professionals navigate the pros and cons of using LED technology and will cover the following topics.
 

o   How long do LEDs really last?

o   What you should and should not expect from LED technology

o   The true potential of LEDs to reduce energy and maintenance costs

o   How the DOE, the IES and the EPA are approaching LED and adaptive lighting

§  Forthcoming ‘Recommended Practices’ and new LED testing standards from the IES

§  The new BUG luminaire classification system

§  Energy Star’s position on Outdoor Lighting

§  The important role that the DLC plays in LED evaluation and approval

§  How the DOE is testing various LED products and publishing their results

o   How to properly compare various LED luminaires

o   How to properly compare LED to other light sources, such as HID and induction

Paul Mitchell is the Sales & Education Manager for Sternberg Lighting.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1990, and is active with the IES Roadway Lighting Committee.  He has been an IES Member since 2004, and involved with street and area lighting since 1997.  He has authored and co-authored multiple articles published in LD+A Magazine, and presents LED educational seminars around the country.  Paul lives with his wife and two children in San Antonio, TX.
