FUNDAMENTALS OF LIGHTING

 


This se
ries of classes is being offered early in 2011. The five aces are to remind you that the starting date is January 11, 2011..... (1/11/11-Five Aces).

All individuals involved in any aspect of the lighting Industry, whether design, fixture selection, wholesale or retail sales or maintenance, are invited to take part in this school.  This is an opportunity for you to gain initial knowledge in this fascinating discipline or to expand your basic familiarity with the subject. Join with your fellow practitioners to experience a thoroughly professional group of classes presented by informed instructors. These teachers are offering the information from a position of comprehension. All are involved in some aspects of lighting on a daily basis.

As you can observe from the schedule below, the classes will run for eight consecutive weeks, with the final, open book exam to be held on the ninth and last session. This school is eligible for CEU’s for registered architects and PDH’s for professional engineers.  We only have room enough to accommodate 45 students, so early registration is recommended.

January 11 - Basic Lighting Concepts, Vision and Color
                            
Brief history of lighting- What is Light?  Vision?  Color?

January 19 - Electric Light Sources and Ballasts
                            
Lamp types - incandescent, fluorescent, high intensity discharge LED’s, ballasts

January 26 - Luminaires and Controls
                            
Methods of light control & luminaires

February 2 - Photometry and Calculations
                            
Photometric data for luminaires, determining average illuminance, illuminance at a point and illuminance equation components/examples

February 9 - Lighting for Interiors
                            
Emotional impact, degrees of stimulation, glare and sparkle, direction and distribution of light, interior lighting applications

February 16 - Lighting for Exteriors
                            
Exterior lighting elements, critical lighting considerations, exterior lighting applications

February 23 - Important issues in Lighting
                          
The lighting design profession, sustainable design, daylighting, lighting economics, codes and standards, light and health

March 2 - Final Exam
                           
Open book exam to determine the amount of information gained by the student and the ability to find the required information.
