CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Applications for the Tim Carnes Memorial Scholarship may be submitted by full time college students who are current members of the University Student Chapter of the IESNA and desire to incorporate illumination into their future career.

The IESNA San Jacinto Section / Tim Carnes Memorial Scholarship has been established in remembrance of an individual who dedicated 25 years to the Lighting and Electrical Industry.  Tim's entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to the IES San Jacinto Section and the lighting community will long be remembered and missed. The Memorial Scholarship has been created to assist individuals with this same spirit and passion for the Lighting Industry.        

The award of the $1,000.00 scholarship is at the discretion of the IESNA San Jacinto Section Award Panel and is for tuition, books and/or related materials.  The scholarship will be made by check payable directly to the University.  Applications will be based on evaluation of the following:

1)  Include a typed essay, 500-800 words in length, discussing energy-efficient lighting design strategies that business owners use to increase productivity and promote sustainable design.

2)  One letter of recommendation from a current or previous teacher at the University level.  Include their daytime phone number and e-mail address.

3)  Conference call Interview with San Jacinto IESNA Scholarship Committee panel for the scholarship finalists.

Deadline for completed applications is receipt by Friday, February 27, 2009.  Scholarship winner(s) will be announced by  Tuesday, March 31, 2009.

 The Scholarship:  One or two scholarships of $1,000.00 each.

Application Instructions:

1.      Application must be typed or printed neatly.

2.      Additional pages may be attached to complete any section.

3.      Include one letter of recommendation from a previous teacher at the University level with a daytime phone number & e-mail address.

4.     The essay portion must be typed, double spaced, on separate sheet(s).

6.     The completed application must be submitted and received at the address on the application or emailed no later than February 27, 2009.

7.    The (3) finalists will be interviewed by the selection panel.

Requirements:  Completed application, 500 to 800 word essay and a letter of recommendation.  (See above), Must be a Member IESNA Student Chapter (If not a Member, fill out a membership application, submit it on-line, print a copy and include it along with a $15 check made out to IESNA, and include it with your scholarship application.
